Russell Ballard

"Generally speaking, the most miserable people I know are those who are obsessed with themselves; the happiest people I know are those who lose themselves in the service of others…  By and large, I have come to see that if we complain about life, it is because we are thinking only about ourselves" -Gordon B. Hinckley

  • We get so caught up and sure of ourselves, being 'saints', but sometimes we are actually worse off, but have too much pride to realize it (need self awareness)

"To be tied to earlier mistakes—our own or other people’s—is the worst kind of wallowing in the past from which we are called to cease and desist" -Jeffrey R. Holland

"When something is over and done with, when it has been repented of as fully as it can be repented of, when life has moved on as it should and a lot of other wonderfully good things have happened since then, it is not right to go back and open up some ancient wound that the Son of God Himself died trying to heal" -Jeffrey R. Holland

"We cannot build up the kingdom if we are tearing ourselves down ; self-contempt is of Satan; there is none of it in heaven; since self-esteem controls ultimately our ability to love God, to love others, and to love life, nothing is more central than our need to build justifiable self esteem" -Elder Neal A. Maxwell

Matthew 7:1-5 "Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considereth not the beam that is in thy own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and behold a beam is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote of they brother's eye"
  • Self awareness is very important!

"See how far you've come, not how far you have to go" -Kent Brooks

Matthew 20- parable of the laborers in the vineyard. The first laborers come, and then the householder hires more throughout the day. He hires some in the last hour, and at the end of the day, all receive equal pay. All have an equal chance in heaven- don't give up on anyone! Those who were taken in at the last hour must have been so grateful, and their families. They waited there all day and didn't give up. They were persistent and must have been overwhelmed with gratitude. Many are called, few are chosen (exalted).  Don't be jealous of those who 'get hired' during the last hour. Only God is to judge

And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: and the rain descended , and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house, and it fell: and great was the fall of it"
