Judging, Jealousy
and Comparing Ourselves
"God is fully
aware that you and I are not perfect. Let me add, God is fully aware that the
people you think are perfect are not. And yet, we spend so much time and energy
comparing ourselves to others- usually comparing our weaknesses to their strengths…
As a result we never celebrate our good efforts because they seem to be less
than what someone else does". -Dieter F. Uchtdorf

it pleased the Lord when we worry because we think we never do enough or that
what we do is never good enough" -Boyd K. Packer

and paternal regard" -Joseph Smith
"The nearer we
get to our Heavenly Father, the more we are disposed to look upon perishing
souls; we feel that we want to take them upon our shoulders, and cast their
sins behind our backs… If you would have God have mercy on you, have mercy on
one another" -Joseph Smith
"I feel that
judgment for sin is not always as cut-and-dried as some of us seem to think…
When he does judge us, I feel he will take all things into consideration: our
genetic and chemical make up, our mental capacity, the teachings we have
received, the traditions of our fathers, our health, and so forth" -M.
Russell Ballard
"Too much ego
will kill your talent" -anon
"There is
really no way we can know the heart, the intentions, or the circumstances of
someone who might say or do something we find reason to criticize. Thus, judge
not" -President Monson
Jacob 2&3-
Saints think they are okay merely because they are saints- actually worse off
"Generally
speaking, the most miserable people I know are those who are obsessed with
themselves; the happiest people I know are those who lose themselves in the
service of others… By and large, I have
come to see that if we complain about life, it is because we are thinking only
about ourselves" -Gordon B. Hinckley

Helaman 7:23-24
"..it shall be better for the Lamanites than for you except ye shall
repent. They are more righteous than you, for they have not sinned against that
great knowledge which ye have received"
- We get so caught up and sure of ourselves, being 'saints', but sometimes we are actually worse off, but have too much pride to realize it (need self awareness)
"To be tied to
earlier mistakes—our own or other people’s—is the worst kind of wallowing in
the past from which we are called to cease and desist" -Jeffrey R. Holland
"When something
is over and done with, when it has been repented of as fully as it can be
repented of, when life has moved on as it should and a lot of other wonderfully
good things have happened since then, it is not right to go back and open up some
ancient wound that the Son of God Himself died trying to heal" -Jeffrey R.
Holland
“Behold, he who has

God that he hath made manifest unto you our imperfections, that ye may learn to
be more wise than we have been"
“If our lives and
our faith are centered on Jesus Christ and his restored gospel, nothing can
ever go permanently wrong. On the other hand, if our lives are not centered on
the Savior and his teachings, no other success can ever be permanently right"
-President Howard W. Hunter
"We cannot
build up the kingdom if we are tearing ourselves down ; self-contempt is of
Satan; there is none of it in heaven; since self-esteem controls ultimately our
ability to love God, to love others, and to love life, nothing is more central
than our need to build justifiable self esteem" -Elder Neal A. Maxwell
Matthew 7:1-5
"Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye
shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you
again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but
considereth not the beam that is in thy own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy
brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and behold a beam is in
thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye;
and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote of they brother's
eye"
- Self awareness is very important!
"See how far
you've come, not how far you have to go" -Kent Brooks
Matthew 20- parable of the laborers in the vineyard. The first laborers come, and then the householder hires more throughout the day. He hires some in the last hour, and at the end of the day, all receive equal pay. All have an equal chance in heaven- don't give up on anyone! Those who were taken in at the last hour must have been so grateful, and their families. They waited there all day and didn't give up. They were persistent and must have been overwhelmed with gratitude. Many are called, few are chosen (exalted). Don't be jealous of those who 'get hired' during the last hour. Only God is to judge

condemn us"

cannot hide your crimes from God; and except ye repent they will stand as a

3 Nephi 26:5
"If they be good, to the resurrection of everlasting life; and if they be
evil, to the resurrection of damnation; being on a parallel, the one on the one
hand and the other on the other hand, according to the mercy, and the justice,
and the holiness which is in Christ, who was before the world began"
3 Nephi 27:19
"And no unclean thing can enter into his kingdom; therefore nothing
entereth into his rest save it be those who have washed their garments in my
blood, because of their faith, and the repentance of all their sins, and their
faithfulness unto the end"
Mormon 9:3-4
"Do ye suppose that ye could be happy to swell with that holy Being, when
your souls are racked with a consciousness of guilt that ye have ever abused
his laws? Behold, I say unto you that ye would be more miserable to dwell with
a holy and just God, under a consciousness of your filthiness before him, than
ye would to dwell with the damned souls in hell".
"We want to see
Jesus Christ now, but our certain reunion with Him at the judgment bar will be
more pleasing if we first do the things that make Him familiar to us as we are
to Him. As we serve Him, we come like Him, and we feel closer to Him as we approach
that day when nothing will hide our view" -Henry B. Eyring
Matthew 7:24-27
"Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will
liken them unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock. And the rain
descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house;
and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth
these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man,
which built his house upon the sand: and the rain descended , and the floods
came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house, and it fell: and great was
the fall of it"
"Every
Cinderella has her midnight- it's called Judgment Day" -President Monson
