Repentance
Alma 7:14-15 "Ye must repent and be born again… come and fear not, and lay aside every sin which doth easily beset you, which doth bind you down to destruction"

"A person who sins is like a tree that bends easily in the wind. On a windy and rainy day, the tree bends so deeply against the ground that the leaves become soiled with mud, like sin. If we focus only on cleaning the leaves, the weakness in the tree that allowed it to bend and soil its leaves may remain. Similarly, a person who is merely sorry to be soiled by sin will sin again in the next high wind. The susceptibility to repetition continues until the tree has been strengthened” (Dallin H. Oaks)

"Every saint has a past, and every sinner has a future" -Oscar Wilde

Mosiah 27:13-37 (Alma the younger's conversion)

Alma 13:12- They could not look upon sin save it were with abhorrence

Alma 19:33- "Their hearts had been changed; that they had no more desire to do evil"

Alma 13:27-30- "Cast off your sins, and do not procrastinate the day of your repentance… But that ye would humble yourselves before the Lord, and call  on his holy name, and watch and pray continually, that ye may not be tempted above that which ye can bear, and thus be led by the Holy Spirit, becoming humble, meek, submissive, patient, full of love and all long-suffering. Having faith on the Lord… having the love of God always in your hearts…"

Alma 18:12- the countenance of the king was changed (process)

Alma 24:15-16,19- bury their weapons and vow to never use them again (would rather die than commit sin)

Alma 24:30- "And thus we can see that after a people have been once enlightened by the Spirit of God and have had great knowledge of things pertaining to righteousness and then have fallen away into sin and transgression, they become more hardened, and thus their state becomes worse than though they had never known these things".

(on the challenge of sin)- "But there is an answer to this challenge for you every bit as there is for that investigator to whom you will go. Whoever you are and whatever you have done, you can be forgiven. Every one of you can leave behind any transgression with which you may struggle. It is the miracle of forgiveness; it is the miracle of the Atonement of the Lord Jesus Christ. But you cannot do it without an active commitment to the gospel, and you cannot do it without repentance where it is needed. I am asking you to be active and be clean. If required, I am asking you to get active and get clean" -Jeffrey R. Holland

Alma 36:12-14 "I was racked with eternal torment, for my soul was harrowed up to the greatest degree and racked with all my sins. I did remember all my sins and iniquities, for which I was tormented with the pains of hell…the very thought of coming into the presence of my God did rack my soul with inexpressible horror"

Alma 36:19 "I could remember my pains no more"
20: "My soul was filled with joy as exceeding as was my pain!"
21: "There could be nothing so exquisite and so bitter as were my pains. On the other hand, there can be nothing so exquisite and sweet as was my joy"

Alma 39:8 "Ye cannot hide your crimes from God; and except ye repent they will stand as a testimony against you at the last day

"The very beauty of the word repentance is the promise of escaping old problems and old habits and old sorrows and old sins. It is among the most hopeful and encouraging—and yes, most peaceful—words in the gospel vocabulary. In seeking true peace some of us need to improve what has to be improved, confess what needs to be confessed, forgive what has to be forgiven, and forget what should be forgotten in order that serenity can come to us. If there is a commandment we are breaking, and as a result it is breaking us and hurting those who love us, let us call down the power of the Lord Jesus Christ to help us, to free us, to lead us through repentance to that peace “which passeth all understanding.” (Jeffrey R. Holland)

Helaman 5:17/51 "immediately returned to the Nephites to endeavor to repair unto them the wrongs which they had done"
v.51 "as many as were convinced did lay down their weapons of war, and also their hatred and the tradition of their fathers"
(steps involved in repentance, and with repentance comes new sacrifices)

Helaman 5:40-41 "What shall we do, that this dark cloud of darkness may be removed from overshadowing us?" "You must repent, and cry unto the voice, even until ye shall have faith in Christ, and when ye shall do this, the cloud of darkness shall be removed from overshadowing you"
-sin: burden

"When something is over and done with, when it has been repented of as fully as it can be repented of, when life has moved on as it should and a lot of other wonderfully good things have happened since then, it is not right to go back and open up some ancient wound that the Son of God Himself died trying to heal" -Jeffrey R. Holland

"Let people repent. Let people grow. Believe that people can change and improve. Is that faith? Yes! Is that hope? Yes! Is it charity? Yes! Above all, it is charity, the pure love of Christ. If something is buried in the past, leave it buried. Don’t keep going back with your little sand pail and beach shovel to dig it up, wave it around, and then throw it at someone, saying, “Hey! Do you remember this?” Splat!" -Jeffrey R. Holland

“Behold, he who has repented of his sins, the same is forgiven, and I, the Lord, remember them no more” (D&C 58:42)

Psalms 51:10 "Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me"

Mormon 8:35-41 questions to ask yourself to evaluate how you are doing. Are you ashamed to take upon you the name of Christ? Do you love money and clothes more than the sick and needy?

Moroni 10:32 "Come unto Christ, and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness; and if ye shall deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and love God with all your might, mind, and strength, then is his grace sufficient for you, that by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ; and if by the grace of God ye are perfect in Christ, ye can in nowise deny the power of God"

"Every Cinderella has her midnight- it's called Judgment Day" -President Monson

Matthew 5:48 "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect"

Matthew 21:12-16 Second cleansing of the temple. It is important not to fall back into old patterns of sin. Repent and truly change

Matthew 21:28-32 A man has two sons and asks them to go work in his vineyard. The first says no, but then afterwards repents and goes to work. The second son says yes, but after does not go to help his dad. The first son did the will of his father. A righteous person will repent no matter how wicked their past, and a wicked person will not repent even if they are 'good'

Mormon 9:7-11 "I speak unto you who deny the revelations of God and say that they are done away… He that denieth these things knoweth not the gospel of Christ… For do we not read that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever, and in him there is no variableness neither shadow of changing?"

Moroni 10:4-5 "Ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost. And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things"
